Jordan James has been ruled out for more than four weeks in a huge blow to Leicester City.
James was withdrawn with a hamstring injury in the first half of the 1-1 draw with Wrexham on Tuesday and it’s been confirmed as a serious issue.
The Wales international may now be absent until March, leaving City not only without their star midfielder but also their top scorer.
In a double blow, Oliver Skipp has also been ruled out of the clash with Oxford on Saturday after suffering a head injury in the second half at the Racecourse Ground.
“Unfortunately, neither of them will be available for the next game,” City manager Marti Cifuentes said at his press conference on Friday afternoon. “JJ has suffered a hamstring injury that will keep him out for some weeks. Perhaps it will be slightly more than that (three to four weeks).
“Skippy, the medical team is working with him, but he will definitely not be ready for this game.
“It’s a disappointment to lose two key players. Both of them were doing really well. When he analyse the second-half performance (at Wrexham), definitely it was a big part of it, that we lost two important players in midfield. The situation where we are is far from optimal.
“He (James) has been brilliant for us. He’s scored goals, he gave us energy and desire and that’s something we really value.
“We were happy when he came because he was exactly the kind of profile we wanted in terms of someone young, someone that wanted to help Leicester to be back where we want to be back.
“It’s an important loss as well because his goal contribution has been excellent. It’s a big loss.
“It was a big loss when we lost Aaron Ramsey as well because he fit this kind of profile as a player.

“But we need to accept, we need to cope and find solutions. That’s my job as a manager.”
With Ramsey also out with a hamstring injury and Harry Winks not being considered for selection, it leaves City with four senior players for those three midfield roles: Hamza Choudhury, Boubakary Soumare, Louis Page and Bobby De Cordova-Reid.
In total, City will have six players absent for Saturday’s clash with Oxford, with Harry Souttar and Victor Kristiansen (knee) also unavailable.
Cifuentes confirmed on Friday that Souttar’s setback is not related to his long-term Achilles issue, but a knee problem. The manager said earlier this month that the centre-back had had a minor surgery.
“The setback was not in the Achilles,” Cifuentes said. “He had a feeling on the knee. But he’s doing well. It will take some weeks.
“But even if in a few weeks he starts to join the group, it will take some more time until he’s ready to compete because it’s been a while since his last official game, so we need to be patient with him.”
